Plate heat exchangers are used on ships, are usually intented for central cooling purposes.
The biggest problem at sea is the structure of the sea water, which is corrosive. For safe use in marine systems, you can safely use our corrosion-resistant, high quality ExperPHE plate heat exchangers made from titanium to always provide the desired temperature for your ship.
Ship Cooling Systems
Engine cooling systems are divided into direct and indirect cooling. The direct cooling system is used in engines designed for marine transport. All circulating water equipment and cylinder blocks are protected with seawater resistant alloys and anodes. This is how most outboard marine and small power inboard engines are manufactured.
The engine driven seawater pump absorbs water, circulates in the engine and provides cooling. Because this pump is configured to provide sufficient cooling even when the engine is running under severe conditions, during normal operation the engine does not reach the ideal operating temperature required and runs cold. Therefore, marine engines of this type have a bridge line and a thermostat, as well as additional devices that regulate the flow of water to the engine and ensure that it is sufficiently heated.
In indirect cooling systems, fresh water circulates inside the engine, like in land vehicles or stationary industrial engines. With such cooling systems, the internal parts of the engine are also protected from the effects of sea water. The engine driven seawater pump directs the seawater to the heat exchanger. The heated fresh water leaving the engine, circulating in the plates inside the heat exchanger, transfers its heat to the seawater, cools and returns to the engine.
Central Cooling Systems
By using seawater in the central cooling systems, the secondary fresh water circulation pipe is cooled. This chilled fresh water acts as a coolant for heat exchangers in systems requiring cooling, such as cold water in the circulation line, engine water cooling and his shirts. Using fresh water in the second cycle reduces corrosion and wear on loop components in machine lines, and minimizes backup and maintenance costs.
ExperPHE plate heat exchangers are designed in the most suitable way for your application and the cost is kept to a minimum. We manufacture different types of stainless steel and titanium plates with different chevron angles for our heat exchangers, which meet all requirements and are compatible for all systems. In addition to the above, we also produce plates from various raw materials according to your requirements. Both standard heat exchanger frames and lightweight aluminum or aluminum alloy shells are specially designed for the marine sector where weight matters.
